Auction Spectrum Efficiently

By Rick Boucher

With CNN Money’s analysis of the state of the wireless market (see “The spectrum war’s winners and losers”), reporter David Goldman underscores that each national carrier is in a unique situation — but, bottom line, all carriers need more spectrum in order to meet consumer demand and better serve their customers.

The FCC should take swift action to auction spectrum efficiently and without restrictions on which players can get in the game. Allowing carriers to win spectrum at auction will unleash investment in wireless — particularly 4G high-speed networks, as vowed by carriers like Verizon and AT&T — across America, to the benefit of consumers and the national economy.
