Because every American
should have access
to broadband Internet.

The Internet Innovation Alliance is a broad-based coalition of business and non-profit organizations that aim to ensure every American, regardless of race, income or geography, has access to the critical tool that is broadband Internet. The IIA seeks to promote public policies that support equal opportunity for universal broadband availability and adoption so that everyone, everywhere can seize the benefits of the Internet - from education to health care, employment to community building, civic engagement and beyond.

Tell Us About Broadband
In Your State

Updates from Alabama

In his 2008 State of the State address, Gov. Bob Riley announced the Alabama Internet Initiative with a goal of ensuring that every home and every business in our state has high-speed Internet access and will have it within the next four years.

Since its inception in 2008, the Alabama Broadband Initiative, aka connectingALABAMA, has seen enormous growth and success.  Static maps of all 67 counties, as well as statewide maps, are now available on our site.  We conducted 1,600 residential surveys across the state to better understand broadband access and use. We are about to launch 8 regional teams to work with counties in identifying and addressing barriers to both supply and demand. We are excited to be an ambassador for IIA.  Check out our website for more information:  http://www.connectingalabama.gov, and let us know if we can ever help you in your efforts to implement a similar program.
