What State Leaders Are Saying
Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC): Mobile Broadband Expansion “Is A Game-Changer.” “Our state is a sea of small towns and rural communities, with islands of population and commerce in the Upstate, Midlands and Lowcountry. For the vast majority of our residents, this expanded investment in mobile broadband is a game-changer. From a technological perspective, it will put small towns like Bamberg and Chesterfield on an even playing field with population centers like Greenville and Charleston in their efforts to attract new jobs and take advantage of educational opportunities.” (Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC0, Comment To The Federal Communications Commission Regarding The Merger Between AT&T And T-Mobile, ecfsdocs.fcc.gov, 5/21/11)
“Calhoun County Administrator Lee Prickett Said There Is A ‘Serious Need’ For Broadband Access In Almost Every Area Of The County.” (Phil Sarata, “Area Getting $21 Million For Broadband Internet,” The [Orangeburg, S.C.] Times and Democrat, 9/14/10)
FCC Commissioner Mignon Clyburn: “Broadband policy also has the potential to transform the way healthcare is delivered in this country. Coming from South Carolina, a state with a significant rural population and where the demand for healthcare providers sometimes exceeds supply, I am well acquainted with the need for robust telehealth programs.” (Commissioner Mignon Clyburn, Testimony Before The House Energy And Commerce Subcommittee On Communications, Technology, And The Internet, Washington, DC, 9/17/09)
Jamal Simmons, Co-Chairman of the Internet Innovation Alliance and Bernie Mazyck, Chairman of the South Carolina IIA State Chapter and President and CEO of the South Carolina Community Economic Development Association, talk about the benefits of broadband, especially wireless broadband.
