In response to the COVID-19 health crisis, Penn Medicine Center for Healthcare Innovation associate Ryan Schumacher developed the Nourished platform, which enables the delivery of dozens of meals from a local restaurant to hospitals all in a single trip, reducing the number of visitors and limiting the spread of disease.
Nourished started as a text message platform, but then was modified into a web application by Penn team members Cathy Reitz, Caitlyn McDonald, and Jessica Sung. Projects like these typically take up to several years to go from concept to scale, but because of the crisis, Nourished cut that timeframe to just weeks.
“Everyone understands the urgency of this. Everyone is making the time,” said Schumacher. “We couldn’t have asked for a better platform to have internally.”
