Quantum sensors may be the next emerging, transformative technology that exploits the quantum nature of matter to create extreme levels of precision. These sensors could allow autonomous vehicles to see around corners, create early warning systems for volcanic activity and earthquakes, and more.

While quantum systems are becoming more popular, they are still susceptible to disturbances limiting their ability to perform and are expensive, oversized, and complex. Fortunately, researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have developed smaller and less expensive components. This is a step towards being able to mass-produce sensors that could work for many applications.
