Best known for inventing the anti-lock braking system, former Fiat Engineer Mario Palazzetti recently designed a gadget dubbed the “Biostopper” that reduces the circulation of droplets when a person speaks, which has the potential to hinder the spread of COVID-19. The device works by creating an aerodynamic field that ensures all breath that someone emits while speaking returns to that person, allowing people to come together with less fear of spreading harmful droplets.

“The concept is simple, the ambition is not to kill the virus, but to reduce the distance (between people) safely,” said Palazzetti.

Palazzetti is currently working with a team from the Politecnico di Torino (University of Turin) to fully develop the product and hopes to go to market with the device by the end of summer.
