A robotic dog recently went for a stroll through Downtown Dallas. In partnership with AT&T, Ghost Robotics developed the bionic pooch, which is covered in cameras and sensors.

The dog, which is powered by FirstNet, a communications network designed to help law enforcement, healthcare and first responders, is designed to go where it is “too dangerous for humans” (of particular importance for the public safety community). These computerized canines can travel underwater and walk over all kinds of terrain to detect things like radiation and explosives. Nearly 10 military bases already have them in operation.

Of interest, a similar robotic dog created by Boston Dynamics became the inspiration for the ‘Metalhead’ episode of the dystopian series Black Mirror.
