More than half (55%) of US broadband households now owns a smart TV, according to Parks Associates’ latest whitepaper OTT Streaming Trends to Watch in 2022. The share of owners is similar with 2020, and up from about 45% in Q1 2016. According to Parks Associates, streamers today typically subscribe to one or more foundational services – Netflix, Amazon Video, Disney+, or Hulu – and then add three or more additional services.
Nearly 72% of U.S. consumers own at least one standalone streaming device, but the research outfit estimates that the number of standalone connected devices will continue to decline as smart TVs increasingly dominate.
Streaming media players are now the second most-used streaming device, with an adoption rate below 40% as of Q3 2021.
