A recent report from BroadbandNow found a significant rise in low-priced broadband offerings in 2020, with nearly 100 internet service providers introducing or expanding low-priced broadband plans (defined as $60 or less per month) in Q4 alone. In December 2020, 70% of Americans had access to a low-cost plan. This is up from just 52% the year before and includes around 59 million Americans who received access to affordable internet for the first time in 2020.

Closing the digital divide and creating equitable broadband coverage for all Americans must take into consideration both the accessibility and affordability of broadband service.
