Deep technologies — profoundly innovative technologies that potentially offer significant advances over those currently used — are attracting an unprecedented level of investment in attempts to move these technologies to the market. From 2015 – 2018, disclosed private investment in seven major deep tech sectors grew an average of 22% per year, with biotechnology disclosing almost $19 billion and artificial intelligence almost $15 billion of total investment in 2018. Quantum computing also made the list at $123 million.
