The U.S. Census Bureau recently released the 2013-2017 American Community Survey five-year estimates, which among other things, featured internet subscription rates among counties in the U.S. The survey found that broadband internet subscription rates were low in many counties in the upper Plains, the Southwest, and the South. And notable differences were found in broadband subscription rates between “mostly rural” and “mostly urban” counties — 65% of households in “mostly rural” counties had broadband subscriptions versus 75% of households in “mostly urban” counties.

The figure below shows the percentage of U.S. households with subscription to any broadband service between 2013 and 2017.
