According to a recent poll by Quinnipiac University, Americans widely view social media companies like Facebook and Twitter as harmful — over two-thirds say they are doing more harm than good and just a fifth hold the opposite view. When asked specifically about Facebook’s handling of misinformation, just 13% of polled think the company is doing a “good” or “excellent” job.

While social media companies are broadly viewed unfavorably, there’s less consensus about regulating them. Roughly half of Americans think the government should be involved in regulating social media companies and half do not.
