Quantum computing — a relatively new technology introduced in 1982 — allows information to be processed exponentially faster and more efficiently than traditional computing systems. And in the past 20 years, the field of quantum computing has grown rapidly. In 1998, researchers from IBM, Oxford, Berkley, Stanford, and MIT were able to produce the first 2-qubit computing system. In 2019, the quantum computing startup Rigetti is expected to release the first 128-qubit quantum computing system.
