During the coronavirus pandemic, internet usage has surged, with global usage rising by nearly 40%. YouTube has seen particularly high growth, with consumers turning to the platform for news, fitness, cooking, DIY instruction, and more.

According to the Sandvine network intelligence company, from February 1 – April 19, YouTube was the leading application for internet users, responsible for almost 16% of total global traffic and nearly doubling its share from the same period in 2019. Netflix wasn’t far behind with just over 11% of the global traffic share.
