CNBC reports (via Matt Burns of TechCrunch) that Apple is set to unveil the third generation of its popular iPad next week in New York. Rumors abound that the new version will be 4G LTE compatible. If so, the next leap forward in mobile broadband is about to happen.

Update: According Zach Epstein of Boy Genius Reports, Apple has sent out iPad 3 event invites for March 7 in San Francisco, not New York.

A new report from Opensignal found that in September 2020, 5G users in the U.S. consumed almost twice as much data as 4G users – 16.5GB compared to 8.7GB respectively.

IIA believes that now is the right time for the FCC to update and modernize its approach to reporting to Congress on the deployment of advanced telecommunications capability. Because consumers perceive and use mobile and fixed broadband services in essentially the same way, the FCC should now consider mobile and fixed broadband services “functional substitutes” and report to Congress accordingly.
