Investing in Broadband and America’s Future: A Chat with House Energy & Commerce Committee Leader Rep. McMorris Rodgers
featuring a virtual fireside chat with Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Republican Leader of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Bruce Mehlman, IIA Founding Co-Chair and former Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Tech Policy
The coronavirus pandemic has underscored the importance of broadband accessibility and affordability. Thanks to high-speed broadband internet, Americans have been able to remotely work, participate in digital learning, benefit from telehealth, and much more over the past year. While U.S. broadband providers have invested more than $1.7 trillion to build modern networks, the digital divide persists in some places, either because internet access isn’t available or because lower-income families cannot afford the service.
The Internet Innovation Alliance (IIA), a broad-based coalition supporting broadband availability and access for all Americans since 2004, invites you to hear ideas on how to achieve universal broadband during a discussion between Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Bruce Mehlman, IIA Founding Co-Chair and former Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Technology Policy. They will also explore priorities for the Energy and Commerce Committee under the Congresswoman’s leadership and learn where Rep. McMorris Rodgers and Committee Chairman Frank Pallone might make collaborative, bipartisan progress over the next two years. Questions from the audience will be answered following the Q&A.
