Computers4Kids (C4K) was founded to help close the gap that exists between youth who can afford to have a home computer and those who cannot by utilizing the growing supply of surplus computers that results when businesses, residents, and organizations upgrade their equipment. The founders are Meredith Richards (Charlottesville City Councilor), WINA’s Sarah McConnell (now with the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities), and Irvin Cox (Entré Computer Center). Since its inception, C4K has trained more than 1,400 youths and continues to extend its services to about 10 new youth every month. The C4K staff continues to carry out the C4K mission and improve and expand the scope of program services.
